Hello! We continue to live in an unprecedented time.
Earlier this week (March 30, 2020), Governor Wolf announced all schools in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will remain closed indefinitely.
Due to this announcement, Thursday, April 9 and Monday, April 13 will now be considered student instructional days.
Please continue to monitor the Skyward Message Center, the District website, and the District social media outlets for updates.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncertain times.
MARCH 25, 2020 UPDATE
Although our physical campuses remain closed, student instruction will resume from the safety of your homes beginning on Monday March 30, 2020, in accordance with the Governor’s directives and guidelines.
While not all activities for students will require internet connectivity, our campus buildings are the “hubs of internet access,” if needed. The Red Lion Area School District guest wireless network will be available at all of our buildings 24/7 until regular school schedules resume. This network is available from the parking spots that are closest to our buildings. District-owned student devices will automatically connect to the WiFi network. Non-district owned devices may connect to the “RL Guest” network without the need for a password. The District recommends adherence to the CDC recommendation of remaining a minimum of 6 feet apart and therefore, we ask that families taking advantage of the internet hub of access remain in their vehicles to ensure safety for all. If you have a problem with technology and need tech help, please email: whd@rlasd.net. Our help desk is servicing teachers, students, and parents.
Please be attentive to your Skyward and email accounts for communication and information from your child's teacher(s). This is an unprecedented situation and our staff are working together to provide your students with meaningful learning opportunities during these difficult times.
Shifting a 6,000-student school district in a matter of days to provide a non-traditional educational experience has been quite a task. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through this together! We know our teacher and student connections and the relationships that have been built are very important, and we’ll do all we can to maintain them during this unique time.
We are so proud of our staff who have been working to adjust, adapt, and get ready to reach out to our students with new instruction. We really do love, value, and miss our students. We are here for them and for you!
We will get through this together. Wishing you health and happiness.
Stay tuned for more information!
MARCH 23, 2020 UPDATE
Dear Parents & Guardians:
Good afternoon. We are in extraordinary times. We’ve just received the following:
This afternoon (March 23, 2020), the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) announced all schools in the commonwealth will remain closed through at least April 6 as a result of the COVID-19 response efforts. The closure order could be extended beyond April 6 if necessary to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19.
District leadership continues to meet on a daily basis to prepare for the continued education of our Red Lion Area students in accordance with the Governor’s directives and guidelines.
We will be providing learning opportunities for students as soon as clarification and guidance is received from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Please continue to monitor the Skyward Message Center and the District website for future communication.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility as we navigate this unprecedented time together and thank everyone for their commitment to serving and supporting our school communities.
We are thinking of you during this time.

MARCH 16, 2020 UPDATE Message
Dear Red Lion Families:
Since our initial announcement that the District would be closing schools through March 27, 2020, the Governor announced a statewide two-week school district closure and has provided additional guidance to districts regarding our responsibility for the continuity of instruction. As a result, we are postponing our use of Flexible Instructional Days. Any assignments that you may have received from your child’s teacher(s) are no longer required. We have compiled a list of FAQs: link.rlasd.net/FAQs-March162020. Thank you for your patience and please continue to watch for updates over the next two weeks.
MARCH 13, 2020 UPDATE Message
Dear Parents & Guardians:
This afternoon, Governor Wolf ordered the closure of all public schools in the Commonwealth for two weeks beginning Monday, March 16. As we announced earlier today, the Red Lion Area School District will remain closed through March 27, 2020. Activities and events will remain suspended during this time as well. While we anticipate a resumption of school and activities on March 30, we will continue to monitor developments from the Governor’s office and multiple health organizations.
Today, we asked students to gather educational materials with the anticipation of teachers communicating during the week of March 16, 2020 with more details regarding assignments.
Because of the Governor’s announcement, we may not be able to meet the original plan to have educational activities delivered to our students during the week of March 16. We will, however, continue to communicate and provide updates as we are able to via the District website and the Skyward Message Center.
We encourage you to maintain healthy practices during the closure:
-Wash your hands with soap and water, regularly.
-Cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue or your elbow, not your hands.
-Clean surfaces frequently.
-If you are sick, stay home until you are feeling better.
Please check the Red Lion Area School District web page or the following - Facebook, Twitter (@rlschools), Instagram (@rl_schools) - frequently for updates and announcements.

MARCH 13, 2020 Message
Dear Parents and Guardians:
The safety and well-being of all of our students, faculty, and staff is of the utmost concern. We have been actively monitoring the rapidly changing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) health issue. As events unfold, we believe the time has come for our District community to make an important decision.
While we do not have any confirmed cases, the Red Lion Area School District will not be in session for students beginning March 16, 2020 through March 27, 2020 so that we can have additional conversations with health professionals. All transportation services for District students will be cancelled during this period. Beginning at 11:59 PM, March 13, 2020, all District buildings will close and all school activities will be cancelled. The District’s tentative plan is to reopen schools and resume activities on Monday, March 30, 2020.
Today, students are being directed to collect all personal items, including sports equipment and educational materials, to take home for the duration of the closure. Educational materials may include Chromebooks, chargers, textbooks, workbooks, novels, folders, notebooks, and any other materials necessary to complete school work. Students and parents/guardians will not be permitted to collect any personal or educational belongings after today. Beginning the week of March 16, 2020, teachers will utilize the Skyward Message Center and District email to communicate with students and families regarding school assignments.
Please continue to monitor the Skyward Message Center and the District website for future communication.
District communication and consultation is ongoing with the following organizations who are experts in emergency preparedness and crisis management:
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- PA Department of Health
- York County Office of Emergency Management

FEBRUARY 28, 2020 Message
The Centers for Disease Control and the Pennsylvania Department of Health have both issued recent updates on the Coronavirus, a respiratory illness first identified in China in December 2019.
There are NO reported cases of Coronavirus connected to our school district.
We are providing information to you so you are aware of this issue, and so you are assured that the Red Lion Area School District has plans in place to monitor, prepare for and respond to any health or safety issue that may impact us. We also encourage you to use the Centers for Disease Control and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Health as trusted resources on the latest updates and guidance concerning this health issue.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health recently shared guidelines for K-12 schools with the Red Lion Area School District. We have included a link to that guidance, below.
The guidance included tips for reducing the spread of any illness among our community at this time, such as:
*Cover any coughs or sneezes with your elbow, do not use your hands!
*Clean surfaces frequently, such as countertops, light switches, cell phones and other frequently touched areas. Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
*Contain- if you are sick, stay home until you are feeling better.
Our schools are cleaned and disinfected daily as part of ongoing custodial services. During a time of potential heightened illness, such as flu season, our staff enhances cleaning services and has plans in place to address areas in which higher incidents of illness may occur throughout that time.
We will continue to follow all recommendations from federal, state and local health officials concerning the Coronavirus, and will continue to provide you with updates related to this issue as we receive them.
The following are resources that have been shared with the District in an effort to help us learn more about Coronavirus and communicate with our staff, families and community.
