On Wednesday, December 6 and Thursday, December 7, 2017, the entire 9th Grade at the Red Lion Area Senior High will participate in Junior Achievement’s STEM Summit. Intended to inspire students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math, business volunteers will join our students for this day-long program.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in the next five years, STEM jobs are projected to grow twice as quickly as jobs in other fields. Further, the majority of high paying jobs in the future will have some STEM components. The key is getting our students excited and interested in the coursework to prepare them for these jobs. Every activity within the STEM Summit is geared toward doing just that.
Every one of our RLASD 9th Grade students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on competitions and experiments ranging from biology, physics, and chemistry experiments to math and engineering challenges to a relay that includes walking on eggs to demonstrate structural engineering. Students will also listen to career panelists with some unique and very interesting jobs talk about their daily work and the education/training it took to achieve their goals.
Junior Achievement of South Central Pennsylvania will reach 100,000 K-12 students during the 2017-2018 academic year, including more than 12,000 students participating in the STEM Summit.
Volunteers are needed to conduct the STEM Summit at Red Lion Area Senior High. For more information or to sign up to volunteer, please contact Allison Kierce at 717-843-8028 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
